dc.description.abstract |
This research is aimed to make up the analyzed use “will” and “would”
modals by main character of the short film entitled “Oxford English Daily
Conversation Episode 3” and its application for teaching grammar.
The researcher was collecting data by watching short film entitled “Oxford
English Daily Conversation Episode 3” by several times. The second step was
transcribing all conversations in the short film. The third step was to analyzed use
“will” and “would” modals especially willingness expressions use by main
character which occurred in the conversation.
Therefore, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research method. The
method is chosen of creative work which can be interpreted in general way.
The result had shown some categories of use “will” and “would” modals. The
researcher analyzed about that expression use “will” modals is 7 (70% from 10
expressions), the expression use “would” modal is 1 (10 % from 10 expressions),
the main character use “won’t” modal is 1 (10 % from 10 expressions), the main
character use “wouldn’t have” is 1 (10% from 10 expressions). Based on the result
the researcher know that main character in the short film more using “will”
modals to express willingness expression is 5 (50% from 10 expressions), the
main character little using “won’t” and “wouldn’t” modals to express
unwillingness (refusal to do something) is 2 (20% from 10 expressions), and also
the main character use “would” to express imagine situation or action in the past
is 1 (10% from 10 expressions). |
