In learning process, interaction between teachers and students must be
built to develop the trust and student’s potential, to be able to grow and develop in
accordance with the expectations of parents, teachers and the society. Success in
learning process is influenced by the performance of learning the role of teachers
and students who support each other, interaction with other. The aims are to know
the teaching approaches used by Mr. Melvin Tolson in The Great Debaters
movie, to describe the roles of teacher in teaching learning process in The Great
Debaters movie, and to describe the implementation of The Great Debaters movie
in teaching debate.
This research is a qualitative research and a descriptive qualitative method.
The data analysis is from The Great Debaters movie. The data are collected
through: watching the film, identifying to find the data related to the study,
classifying the data found, selecting the relevant data, reporting selected data.
Then the researcher analyzes the data with some steps, they are: exposing the data,
interpreting the data, rechecking and making the data, comparing the data, and
concluding in order to answer the statement of the problem.
Based on the analysis, there are 3 teaching approaches found in The Great
Debaters movie and 3 the roles of teacher in teaching learning process in The
Great Debaters movie. There are 27.2% of individual approaches, 36.4% of group
approaches, 36.4% of classical approaches, and 12.5% of teacher as motivator,
62.5% of teacher as facilitator, 25% of teacher as inspirator. The implementation
of this study can be applied in teaching debate in the XII grade of senior high
school semester 1. |
