dc.description.abstract English has become an international language in the world. It has been used in global communication. In English, there are four skills should be mastered by the students namely reading, writing, speaking and listening. In the teaching learning activity, the method and technique use by the teachers must be appropriate for the students. By using Reciprocal method students will improve students’ ability to find specific information of the text. There are four strategies in Reciprocal Method namely predicting, questioning, clarifying, and summarizing. The objective of this research is to know the level of students’ reading ability and to find out whether using Reciprocal method is effective or not to improve students’ reading ability of the Tenth Grade students in MA Negeri 1 Kebumen. The type of this research is experimental and quantitative research. The sample of this research are class MIA 2 which consists of 28 students as experimental group, And class MIA 3 which consists of 28 students as control group. The researcher collected the data by giving pre-test and post-test to the students. The researcher taught Descriptive text by using Reciprocal Method to experimental group and common way to control group. The researcher then statistically analyzed the data by using t-test polled variance. The result of this research showed the students’ reading ability after being taught by Reciprocal Method. The mean score of pre-test of experimental group is 65.29 and control group is 60.29. The mean score of post test of experimental group is 72.86and control group is 67.29. It means that the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score of pre-test. The result of t-value is 2.43. Based on ttable by using the 5% (0.005) significance level, the value of t-table is 2.000. it means that t-value is higher than t-table (2.43>2.000). Based on the results, the hypothesis of research (Ha) is accepted. The researcher concluded that using Reciprocal method to improve reading ability of the Tenth grade students in MA Negeri 1 Kebumen in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective. en_US
