dc.description.abstract The aims of this research are (1) to seek out the types of illocutionary acts; and (2) to describe how is the application of illocutionary act found in English translation of Qur’an surah An-Nisa in teaching Speaking at the eleventh grade of Senior High School. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research were the sentences in English translation of Al-Qur’an surah An-Nisa. The research instrument was the researcher herself. The researcher obtained the data by means of note-taking technique. In the data analysis the researcher applied descriptive analysis technique to identify the type of illocutionary act in English translation of Al-Qur’an surah An-Nisa. The results of the research show that there are five types of illocutionary act found in the English translation of Al-Qur’an surah An-Nisa. Those are assertives with the number of 144 (56.5%), directives with the number of 56 (22%), commisives with the number of 39 (15.3%), expressives with the number of 12 (4.7%) and declarations with the number of 4 (1.5%). The most dominant illocutionary acts is assertives. The application of analyzing illocutionary acts in English translation of surah An-Nisa can be implemented at the eleventh grade of Senior High School in the material using transactional meaning in the text conversation in the context of daily activity. The researcher hopes this thesis can enrich knowledge of pragmatics, especially illocutionary act for the teachers and students who should be able to understand illocutionary act found in Al-Qur’an and use it for the material in the classroom. en_US
