The aim of this thesis are: (1) to describe the types of cooperative principle that were found in movie scripts especially about its obedience that consists of maxims of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relevance and maxim of manner used by the characters in 1 Mile to You movie; (2) to know the dominant maxim used by the characters in 1 Mile to You movie; (3) to know the application of cooperative principle in teaching speaking at senior high school.
This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. There are two sources of the data. First, the primary source is the movie of “1 Mile to You” movie. Second, the data is the movie script from ―1 Mile to You” movie. The researcher is the planner, the data collector, the data analyzer, and the data reporter of the research. As a consequence, in this research, the researcher is the instrument. The supporting instruments are data sheet, movie player and the script of the movie. The researcher watches the movie to observe every scene and identify every utterance of the participants to find the use of cooperative principle types.
The result of the descriptive analysis showed that the dialogues in 1 Mile to You movie that obedience cooperative principle are maxim of quality 13.43%, maxim of quantity 47.76%, maxim of relevance 26.87% and maxim of manner 11.94%. Based on the result of analysis, the researcher concluded that the dominant maxim that found in 1 Mile to You movie is maxim of quantity. The last is the application of cooperative principle can saw in the English material to enchant speaking skill on Senior High School at second grade. |
