Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to find out whether the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method in teaching recount text was effective to improve students‟ reading comprehension of narrative text to the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Klirong in the academic year of 2016/2017.
This research was a quantitative experimental research. The population in this research was all of the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Klirong in the academic year of 2016/2017. The number of population was 252 students, and the researcher took 63 students as the sample by using purposive sampling. The sample consisted of two classes, XI IPA 3 as the control group and XI IPA 4 as experimental group. The researcher used pre-test and post-test in getting the data and then calculating both of tests manually.
From the result of normality and homogeneity test, it could be concluded that the distribution both classes were normal and homogeneous. For hypothesis testing, the researcher used t-test. From the result, the t-value was 2.123 and t-table was 2.000. It could be said that 2.123>2.000. The null hypothesis was rejected and the research hypothesis was accepted. Based on the explanation above, the researcher concluded that the used of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method was effective to improve students‟ reading comprehension of narrative text to the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Klirong in the academic year of 2016/2017.
