The analysis of deixis in the articles of Jakarta Post online newspaper and its application in teaching writing at the tenth grade of senior high school

Abstract

This research aims in identifying and classifying the kinds of the deixis from the articles of the Jakarta post online newspaper and to describe the application in teaching writing of the deixis in teaching writing at tenth grade Senior High School students. Deixis is a study of meaning. Deixis is reference of an expression to point some words which function to interpret the context. The researcher conducts the analysis kinds of deixis such as person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, social deixis and discourse deixis. This research uses descriptive qualitative method to analysis the deixis. The data is taken from the articles of The Jakarta Post online newspaper published on March, 10th 2017. To collect the data, the researcher browses from www.thejakartapost.com, selecting the articles and analyzing the deixis on the articles. The researcher uses Levinson’s theory to conduct this research. The result of this research show that The deixis found in the articles of The Jakarat Post, those are person deixs is 138 items (89%), place deixis is 3 items (1.93%), time deixis is 5 items (3.22%), social deixis is 9 items (5. 8%), and no discourse deixis. The kinds of deixis are dominant to person deixis. It is because most of sentences in the articles show the person and participants. The result shows no discourse deixis because there is no sentences indicate to discourse deixis. The application of deixis use in teaching writing at tenth grade senior high school students. The researcher hopes this reseacrh will give more adventages to the readers.
