Abstract:
This research is aimed to analyze of denotative andconnotative meaning in Recount Text. The reseacher tries to know types of denotative andconnotative meaning. Denotative meaning and connotative meaning: both of them are based on a relationship between words & world. Denotation is the meaning of a word which is primarily refers to the real word, the "dictionary definition” for instance “cow” shows a kind of animal, “house” shows a kind of building.
This research are analyzed using the descriptive qualitative approach in finding its denotative and connotative meaning. The data are taken from recount text written by the eighth grade students of SMPN 19 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017. The steps of collecting data are taking recount text written by students, analysing denotative and connotative meaning, and classifying types ofdenotative and connotative meaning.
The result of this research is that the number of dennotative and connotative meaning in all text are 59. In denotative meaning, the number of contrastive type is 60 (50%) and the number of contrastive type is 2 (1.7%). In connotative meaning, the number of personal type is 17 (14.17%) and the number of general type is 43 (36%). The researcher hopes that this thesis will give advantages to the readers
