dc.description.abstract Addressing terms is the words which usually used by people before they begin the conversation. It is used depending on the participants, participants’ relationship, social status, setting, and also topic of the conversation. The aims of this research are to identify and to describe the types of addressing terms used by the main character in Will movie, the social factors influencing the usage of them and the application of teaching speaking using addressing terms found in Will movie. The researcher uses a qualitative method to conduct this research. The object of this research is movie, and the data are the main characters’ utterance in Will movie containing addressing terms. The data are collected through take – a note technique. Furthermore, the utterances are analyzed to describe and to explain in detail the phenomena of utterances based on addressing theory. However, number and percentage are also used to support the analysis of the data. This research reveals three findings. First, there are six types of addressing terms in the movie, namely Title Alone (T), First Name (FN), Last Name (LN), Title plus Last Name (TLN), Nickname or Pet Name (N/P), and Kinship (K). The first type is T with 1 data (1.88%). The second type is FN with 8 data (15.09). The third type is LN with 14 data (26.41). The forth type is TLN with 6 data (11.32%). The fifth type is N/P with 9 data (16.98%). The last type is K with 15 data (28.30%). Second, the researcher finds nine social factors influencing the usage of addressing terms in the movie, namely particular occasion (PO), social status (SS), gender (G), age (A), family relationship (FR), Occupational hierarchy (OH), transactional status (TS), race (R), and degree of intimacy (DI). There is PO with 0 (0%) data, SS with 13 data (24.52%), G with 0 (0%) data, A with 4 data (7.54%), FR with 15 data (28.30%), OH with 0 (0%) data, TS with 0 (0%) data, R with 0 data (0%), and DI with 21 data (39.62%). Addressing terms is one of important material which should be taught by teacher, especially in speaking. There are many examples of addressing terms which found in the movie. It can be used to teach speaking in senior high school at second grade. By using movie, students may know more about addressing terms in English and students can also know that the usage of certain type of addressing terms in communication influenced by social factors. en_US
