Abstract:
The objective of the research is to describe whether anagram technique is
effective or not for teaching vocabulary at the eighth grade of SMP N 33
Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017.
The research can be classified as an experimental research. The population of
the research is the eighth grade students of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic
year of 2016/2017 consists of 7 classes and total population is 226 students. The
researcher takes two classes as the sample. VIII B as the experimental group
consists of 30 students and VIII C as the control group consists of 33 students. To
collect the data, the researcher used test as instrument. The technique of analyzing
data is descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The computation using
manual computation and using SPSS 16.0 program.
The result of the research based on the analysis of the data, it shows that the
mean score of pre-test experimental group is 68.58 and the mean score of post-test
is 76.92. The score improves 8.34 point. Meanwhile, the mean score of pre-test
control group is 62.88 and the mean score of post-test is 69.55. The score
improves 6.67 point. It means that the mean score of post-test experimental group
is higher than the mean score of post-test control group (76.92>69.55). In
addition, based on the t-table value (df=61) and the level of significance
(0.05=1.999). The result t-value is higher than t-table (4.26>1.999). So, the null
hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It
means that there is a significant effect of using anagram technique for teaching
vocabulary at the eighth grade of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of
2016/2017.
