dc.description.abstract The objective of this research is to find out what kinds of grammatical and lexical cohesion in narrative text made by the tenth grade students and what kinds of dominant cohesion in narrative text made by the tenth grade students. The research is conducted on 11ᵗ ͪ April 2017 at the tent grade students of SMA N 1 Samigaluh in the academic year 2016/ 2017. In this research, the researcher take one class ( XB) as the subject. The class consists of 16 students. The researcher used writing test as the instrument of this research. This research is qualitative research because the researcher made the descriptions toward the finding of collecting the data. The main instrument in this research is the researcher. She used written test as a technique of colecting data. In collecting the data, the researcher did some steps, they were: coming to the school, asking permission to the teacher to get the written document of students writting in her class, asking the students to make a narrative text, analyzed how many grammatical and lexical cohesion in the narrative text and found out how many percentages of grammatical and lexical cohesion that the student use in the narrative text which was written by the students on April 11ᵗ ͪ, 2017. The results of this research show that there are two types of cohesion in narrative text written by students. There are 171 grammatical cohesion and 39 lexical cohesion. The percentage of grammatical cohesion is 81 % and lexical cohesion 19 % . The researcher can summarize that the dominant cohesion used in narrative text made by the students of SMA N 1 samigaluh is reference (57%). The second place is conjunction (22%) and the third is collocation (9%). Most of the students use personal references in their writting. Thus, most of students used grammatical cohesion in their writting of narrative text. en_US
