dc.description.abstract Teaching technique is a kind of activity used by the teachers to deliver a learning material. Teachers are able to optimize the techniques in learning to improve students‟ ability. The objectives of the study are to identify the types of teaching techniques used by the teachers in teaching speaking, to investigate the different techniques use by the teachers in in teaching speaking, and to identify the application of different techniques to improve speaking skills students at the tenth grade of SMK YPE Sawunggalih Kutoarjo. The activity was conducted at SMK YPE Sawunggalih Kutoarjo especially teachers at Tenth Grade of SMK YPE Sawunggalih Kutoarjo.The researcher uses two methods in this study including observation, and in depth interview. The data uses descriptive qualitative method. From the result of this study, the researcher has found the technique of teaching used by the teacher that there are three kinds, drilling and chants, reading aloud, and dialogue technique. Teachers use different techniques in teaching speaking, because students 'abilities and classroom conditions are also different and in the application of techniques teachers are able to choose a technique to apply based on students' ability and classroom conditions. The researcher also suggests the teacher to try other teaching speaking techniques and add learning media to make the optimal result on their English teaching process. en_US
