Abstract:
This research is aimed to find out the effectiveness of using Group
Investigation method in teaching reading descriptive text at the seventh grade
students of MTs Negeri Prembun in the academic year of 2016/2017. Group
investigation method has six strategies. They are topic selection, planning for
cooperation, implementation, analysis, presentation and the last is evaluation.
The researcher use quantitative research. The population of the study is 253
students’ the seventh grade of MTs Negeri Prembun in the academic year of
2016/2017. The sample was one class, namely VII C is 33 students. This
sample is using purposive sampling technique.
This research was conducted with giving pretest before treatment and
posttest after applying treatment. The data were analyzed by using t-test
formula to show the effectiveness of using group investigation method.
The result of the research that the mean score of pretest is 82.85 and
the mean of posttest is 84.85 and they can be categorized as excellent based
the criteria reference scale of Arikunto. It means that the result of posttest is
higher than pretest. The result of t-value is -0.465 and then the researcher
consult the critical value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level
significance and the degree of freedom is -2.037. It show that t-value is higher
than t-table that is -0.465 > -2.037. It means that using Group Investigation in
teaching reading descriptive text at the seventh grade students of MTs Negeri
Prembun in the academic year of 2016/2017 is effective.
