Abstract:
The objectives of this research are : 1) to describe the students’ motivation and
English learning achievement between boys and girls at the eighth grade students of
MTs Ma’arif Kepil Wonosobo in the academic year 2016/2017. 2) to find out whether
or not thee are differences of motivation and achievement between boys and girls in
the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’arif Kepil in academic year 2016/2017.
This research is quantitative with a comparative hypothesis. The object of the
research is the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’arif Kepil Wonosobo in the academic
year of 2016/2017 with the total number of population is 96 students. The sample of
this research is 60 (30 boys and 30 girls). The researcher takes the data by using
simple random sampling because the population have a similar chance to be chosen
as a sample. The research applied questionnaire and test to collect the data. The
techniques of analyzing data are descriptive statistics and inferential analysis, it is
calculation in order to answer the statement of the problem.
The result of the computation are as follows : 1) the result of t-test of students’
motivation is 2.985 in the level significant 2-tailed 0.04 and the English learning
achievement is 3.016 in the level significant 2-tailed 0.04, the critical value on the
t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significant and degree of freedom is 2.001. In
which the t-obtain is higher than the value of t-table (2.985 and 3.016 > 2.001). 2) the
mean score of student motivation of girl is 76.8 and boy is 72.3, it is in the category
of good. The means score of students’ English learning achievement of girl is 56.633
and boy is 47.467, it is in the category of sufficient to girl and fairly sufficient to boy.
It can be concluded that the motivation and English learning achievement girls is
higher than boys. it means that there is a significant result differences between boys
and girls in motivation and their English learning achievement at the eighth grade
students of MTs Ma’arif Kepil Wonosbo in the academic year of 2016/2017.
