Abstract:
This study is aimed to know kinds of grammatical errors on the recount
text made by the tenth grade students of SMK Batik Perbaik Purworejo in the
academic year of 2016/2017.The researcher is interested in analyze the students’
error writing recount texts because most of students are still make some error in
writing recount text.
In this study the researcher uses the qualitative method to analyze error in
Recount text made by students. In collecting the data, the researcher uses a written
test. The data of this research is writing result of the students in writing class.
The result shows that there are 605 grammatical errors found in this study.
The errors are classified based on the Betty Schrampfer Azar’s error analysis and
the researcher finds grammatical error that there are: singular-plural error is 12
errors (0.02%), word form is 3 errors (0.005%), word choice is 106 errors
(0.18%), verb tense is 104 errors (0.17%), add and omit word is 154 errors
(0.25%), word order is 36 errors (0.06%), incomplete sentence is 31 errors
(0.05%), spelling is 49 errors (0.08%), punctuation is 32 errors (0.05%),
capitalization is 55 errors (0.09%), article is 5 errors (0.01%), meaning not clear is
12 errors (0.02%), run-on sentence is 6 errors (0.01%). The researcher concludes
many students still make errors in their writing, so the teacher should know what
the students need and what they should do to minimize students’ grammatical
error.
