dc.description.abstract This research is focused on analyzing of lexical items error in Descriptive Text Made By The Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 8 Purworejo In The Academic Year 2016/2017 . The objectives of the study are to identify the types of lexical item error in descriptive text made by the tenth grade students, to describe the dominant percentage types of lexical item error in descriptive text made by the tenth grade students, and to know the source of lexical item error in descriptive text made by the tenth grade students at SMA N 8 Purworejo. This research is a qualitative research and used descriptive qualitative method. The researcher obtained the data from students’ writing descriptive text test in SMA N 8 Purworejo. To collect the data, researcher needed some steps, they were: The students’ writing test was conducted in 60 minutes, The students were assigned to write descriptive texts based on the picture they have chosen among three picture given, The students were required to write 12 to 15 sentences in two paragraphs, and The students were allowed to consult with their dictionary. Then to analyze the data, researcher also needed some activities such as identifying the lexical error type made by the students, The researcher reporting the result by describing the result of data tabulation table, and the reseacher interpreting the result by summarizing the detail result in general statements. The result of the analysis of the type of lexical items error in descriptive text shows that there are 140 data from six categories. There are borrowing (code switching) 9 errors (6.43%), coinage 1 error (0.71%), calque 9 errors (6.43%), misspellings 80 errors (57.14%), misselection 18 errors (12.86%), and semantic confusion 23 errors (16.43%). The most dominant percentage types of lexical item error is in misspellings 80 errors (57.14%). The result of the analysis of the source of lexical items error in descriptive text shows that there are 140 data from two categories. There are mother tongue (interlingual transfer) 19 errors (13.57%) and target language (intralingual transfer) 121 errors (86.43%). en_US
