Abstract:
The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of random text
strategy in teaching reading narrative text at the tenth grade students of SMK
Batik PerbaikPurworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 is effective or not.
The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMK Batik
Perbaik Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017. There are 231 students.
From that population the researcher takes two classes as the sample in this
research. The two classes are control group and experimental group. Class (X
AP1, 30 students) is control group and class (X AP2, 30 students) is experimental
group. The sampling technique which is used is a purposive sampling. To collect
the data, the researcher used tests as the instrument. There are pre-test and posttest.
The type of the test is multiple choice tests.
After analyzing the data, the result shows that the mean score of post-test
of experimental group is higher than the mean score of post-test of control group
(76.40>66.00). In addition the result of t-value is 5.470. Then the researcher
consults to the critical value on the t-table using the 5% (0.05) level significance is
1.697. It shows that the t-value is higher than t-table (5.470>1.697). It means that
using random text strategy in teaching reading narrative text at the tenth grade
students of SMK Batik Perbaik Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 is
effective.
