Abstract:
English teacher has an important role to make the process of teaching and
learning English run successfully. One of the aspects that contribute in the success of
teaching and learning is classroom management. Classroom management is believed to
be the key component in any educational setting. Students will be more concentrated to
learn if the class is managed well and the environment of the classroom is conducive. As
the result, students will have more opportunity to get good achievement. There are some
aspects of classroom management: teacher talk, teacher talking time, voice management,
physical presence, seating arrangement, and element necessary in language classroom.
The objective of this research is to find out whether or not there is positive and
significant influence of classroom management on students’ English achievement at the
eleventh grade students of SMK N 1 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017. In
this research, the researcher took 31 students of XI TIPTL-B as the sample from 384
students as the population using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the
researcher used questionnaire and document. The researcher gave questionnaire about
classroom management to the students and took their score of final examination on
second semester from English teacher. After getting the data, the researcher analyzed the
data using manual calculation by Ms. Excel 2007 and computer program by SPSS 16.0.
Based on the hypothesis test by manual calculation and SPSS 16.0, the result of r
value (0.497) is higher than r table (0.355) in significant level 5%. It means that the null
hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Therefore, it can
be concluded that there is positive and significant influence of classroom management on
students’ English achievement at the eleventh grade students of SMK N 1 Purworejo in
the academic year of 2016/2017. Then, based on the calculation of SPPS 16.0, it can be
known that the value of R square is 0.247 which means that students’ English
achievement of XI TIPTL-B SMK N 1 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 is
24.70% affected by their classroom management. While 75.30% is affected by other
factors that are not investigated in this research.
