dc.description.abstract Writing holds an important role for the students in learning English because English writing has different grammatical rules from Indonesian. It is understood that sometimes students make errors in writing English. The aim of this thesis is to find out types of errors made by the eleventh grade students of SMA N 4 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 in writing narrative text. In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data, the researcher uses test as an instrument. The test is a written test about narrative text. The researcher collected the data from 32 students as a subject of this research. The data was collected on April, 17th 2017. While, in analyzing the data, the researcher classifies the students’ errors based on Keshavarz. There are four types of error found: omission, addition, substitution, and permutation. The last that the researcher does in analyzing the data is drawing conclusion and suggestion. The result of this thesis shows that there are 166 students’ errors consist of 60 omissions (36,14%), 8 additions (4,82%), 93 substitutions (56,02%), and 5 permutations (3,01%). The dominant errors made by the students is substitution, while the lowest one is permutation. en_US
