A Case Study of Students’ Difficulties in Using Conditional Sentence at the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Ma’arif 6 Ayah in the Academic Year 2016/2017

dc.description.abstract The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the students difficulties in using conditional sentence and (2) to describe the most difficult types of conditional sentence used by the students of SMK Ma’arif 6 Ayah. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research is the tenth grade students (Class XME) of SMK Ma’arif 6 Ayah in the academic year of 2016/2017. She used test and interview as a main instruments then used questionnaire as supporting instruments in collecting the data. She takes 30 students as the sample of the research for the test and the questionnaire. While in the interview, the researcher only takes ten students based on teacher considerations. The researcher then analyzes the students’ result. Based on the research findings, it shows that students got the difficulty in the level of mastery, the difficulty in vocabulary context, the difficulty in the use of tenses form, the difficulty in memorize the formula, and the lack of motivation and lack of willingness. Moreover, from the findings that the researcher has done, conditional sentence type 3 became the most difficult. Based on the test, for each type of conditional sentence, type 3 is the highest with the total number of wrong answer are 144 (44.2%), then type 2 with the total number of wrong answer are 106 (32.5%), while type 1 is the lowest with the total number of wrong answer are 76 (23.3%). Added by the result of interview from ten students, eight students said that conditional sentence type 3 became the most difficult, while the two of them said that the most difficult is conditional sentence type 2 and type 1 en_US
