Abstract:
This research is a qualitative research. This research is aimed to find out the errors made by the students of class XI PM2 SMK BATIK PERBAIK Purworejo in using interrogative sentences. The data of this study is taken from test. The data was taken once, Saturday, April 22th 2017 at 12:45 pm. The total respondents are 21 Students. In collecting data, the test is used to get the data about the type of error in interrogative sentence. In analyzing the data there are five steps: Identifying the student‟s answer sheet, Classifying the types of errors by using surface strategy Taxonomy proposed by Ellis, Counting the total of errors, Discussing the data, and Making Conclusion.
The result shows that there are 4 types of errors, they are omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The percentage of the errors are 7 omissions (2.55%), 122 additions (44.53%), 123 misformations (44.89%), and 22 misorderings (8.03%). The dominant error is misformation (44.89%). According to the analysis of the student answer sheet, type error of misformation made by the student because the students are still confused by determining appropriate the auxiliary or using to be in writing interrogative sentence. The researcher suggests that the teachers should give the students some exercises to minimize the dominant errors and try to find out the solutions. For the students, students should learn more by practicing writing regularly.
