dc.description.abstract This objetives of this research is to describe the types of error and the most dominant error in writing narrative text made by students at the eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Purworejo. The sample are 25 students from eleventh grade students in XI IPA 1 of SMA Muhammadiyah Purworejo. The data collects by using writing test. The researcher analyzes the data using descriptive qualitative techniques and the researcher analyzes the simple past tense based on the types of error using Keshavarz‟s theory. The researcher collects the data, identify, and then classify. The result shows that the errors made by the students can be categorized into four types of errors. Those are errors of omission, errors of addition, errors of substitution, and errors of permutation. There are 188 omissions (37.5%), 35 additions (7%), 266 substitutions (53%), and 13 permutations (2.6%). The result shows that the most dominant error on using simple past tense in writing narrative text made by the students is errors of substitutions, which is 188 error (53%). en_US
