Abstract:
The Objectives of this research are to identify what kind of teacher‟s talk happen in the teaching learning process in the classroom, and to identify what kind of students‟ talk happen in the teaching learning process in the classroom at the eleventh grade of SMK Negeri 1 Purworejo in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.
The thesis is a descriptive qualitative research on classroom interaction in English teaching–learning process. The data of this study are the interaction between the teacher and the students in the classroom. In order to analyze the data, the researcher recorded the classroom interaction, preparing the equipment to record the classroom activities and recording all of the classroom activities. The subject in this research is the eleventh grade of TKBB 1 of SMK Negeri 1 Purworejo, there are 33 students and one English teacher. The researcher uses observation for technique in collecting data. To analyse the interaction happen between the teacher and the students she uses Flanders‟ Interaction Analysis.
The result of the analysis showes that the teacher takes dominant role in the classroom interaction. It potrays that English teaching and learning process was teacher centered. The percentage of the teacher talk was 55,37 %, and students‟ participation was 41,2 % and the rest, silence was 3,43 %. The classroom interaction indicates that teacher is a direct in the classroom than students. The students are usually unconfident if they give questions or answer a question from their teacher because they are afraid of making mistake.
