Abstract:
The Objective of this study is aimed at finding out whether clustering techniques
effective teaching writing descriptive text at the seventh grade students of SMP
N 31 Purworejo, and to find out whether clustering techniques able to students’
writing descriptive text at the seventh grade students of SMP N 31 Purworejo.
In order to achieve the objective of this study, the researcher design a Quasi
experiment using Pre-test and Post-test. The population of this study the seventh
grade students of SMP N 31 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 which
consists 189 students. The sample of this study is class D as experimental group
that consist of 32, and C class as control group that consists of 32 students and the
sample using purposive sampling. Before the experiment was conducted, the
students were given a pre-test for both groups. At the end of the experiment, each
group was given a post-test.
The result shows that the sample was 64 students. Based on the previous
computation, the mean score of experimental group is 78.41 and the mean of
control group is 71.16. To see whether the hypothesis is accepted or rejected, the
t-value is consulted to the t-table at the 0,05 significance level. It shows that the ttable
is 1.999 and the t-value is 3.699. It means that t- value is higher than t-table,
that is 3.699 > 1.999. So, it can be concluded that the use of clustering technique
in teaching writing descriptive text at the seventh grade students of SMP N 31
Purworejo in the academic year 2016/2017 is effective.
