dc.description.abstract The objectives of the research is to find out whether is any positive and significant influence of Students’ Motivation Toward Their Reading Comprehension Ability at The Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 8 Purworejo in The Academic Year of 2016/2017. The sample involved 32 students by applying simple random sampling. The population of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017. The total of the eighth grade students is 189 students. The validity of the instrument calculated by Pearson’s Product Moment formula and the reliability by Alpha Cronbach formula.The instruments to take the data by questionnaire to observing the students’ motivation and by reading comprehension ability test to observing the reading comprehension skill. Mean and standard deviation are used in the descriptive analysis, while test of normality, homogeneity and hypothesis is used in the inferential analysis. The main result of this research is (1) the students’ motivation can be categorized in high level with M = 75.2, the SD = 7.97 and S = 65.658 at the range 79-84. (2) the students’ reading comprehension ability can be categorized in excellent level with M = 71.7, the SD = 11.50 and S = 136.467 at the range 80 – 100. (3) the result of hyphotesis test shows that the value of correlation is 0.589 which higher than 0.349 rtable 5%. It means that the students’ motivation influence the students’ reading comprehension ability as big as 35.9% and the residue is 64.1% influenced by other factor. The significant value of regression based on SPSS 16.0 is 0.000 which is lower than 0.05. It means that there is a positive and significant influence between two variables. en_US
