Abstract:
To master English, there are four basic language skills which are
supported by other English components. One of the most important components is
grammar because it is the foundation of the language skill. The problems faced by
SMK students are confused of grammar mastery especially in adjective clause,
and students are shy to express their speech.
This research uses experimental design with 348 students as its population.
By employing purposive sampling, the researcher takes 68 students coming 2
classes as her sample. The objective is to know whether using mind maping is
effective or not in teaching adjective caluse. To gain the data, the researcher uses
multiple choice test as the instrument which consists of 25 question with 4 (four)
options. After getting the data, the researcher then did an analysis the data in order
to answer the statement of the problem and the hypothesis.
From the computation, the result of post-test shows the mean score of
experimental class is 75.18 categorized good and the mean score of control class
is 72.35 categorized good based on the criteria-reference scale. Because the data
have normal distribution (8 and 7< 11.070) and the are homogenous (1.368<
1.788), then the researcher uses t-test to do te test of hypothesis. From the
computation, it shows that is higher than (2.025 > 1.997) which means that the
hypothesis alternative is accepted and hypothesis null is rejected. In other words,
it can be said that there is a significant difference on the adjective clause between
class taught using mind mapping technique and those taught without mind
mapping technique on the eleventh grade students of SMK YPP Purworejo in the
academic year of 2016/2017. The researcher concludes that using mind mapping
technique is effective at the eleventh grade students of SMK YPP Purworejo in
the academic year of 2016/2017.
