dc.description.abstract Grammar as one aspects of the language is necessary to be studied. One of grammatical components is pronoun. Pronouns have the function to replace a noun or noun phrase. One of pronouns is personal pronoun. Personal pronouns are words that are used to refer to participants that are judged by a speaker to be already present or active in the mind of the audience. Many students are still confused on the use of personal pronouns in translating sentences. Therefore, the researcher is interested to conduct the research about error analysis on the use of personal pronoun in translating sentence. This thesis is mainly determining students’ error on the use of personal pronouns in translating sentence and finding out the kinds of personal pronouns. This thesis has two objectives. First, it aims to identify the types of errors on the use of personal pronouns in translating sentences made by the seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Karanganyar in the academic year of 2016/2017. Second, it aims to find out the kinds of personal pronouns error. This thesis uses descriptive qualitative as the research design. The subject of the research is the seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Karanganyar in the academic year of 2016/2017. The researcher takes one class which consists of 32 students. The instrument that the researcher uses to collect the data is written test. In analyzing data, the researcher classifies the students’ errors into omission, addition, substitution, and permutation. The result of the research shows that all students make four types of errors, even though in different percentage. There are 183 omissions (42.36%), 12 additions (2.78%), 235 substitutions (54.40%), and 2 permutations (0.46%). In addition, the researcher finds several findings. There are 82 errors of subject pronouns (18.98%), 83 errors of object pronouns (19.21%), 114 errors of possessive adjectives (26.39%), 65 errors of possessive pronouns (15.05%), and 88 errors of reflexive pronouns (20.37%). en_US
