The correlation between of Students’ Motivation in Learning English And Their Reading Comprehension Ability at the Tenth Grade of MA Negeri Gombong in the Academic Year of 2016/2017

Abstract

The aim of the research is to gain information about sudents‟ motivation and their reading comprehension ability at the tenth grade of MA Negeri Gombong. This research is using quantitative approach. The technique of collecting data is questionnaire and test. The population is the tenth grade students of MA Negeri Gombong and the samples are the students of X-MIPA 1 (35 students) and X MIPA 2 (35 students). The writer used random sampling in getting the samples. After the analysis it is found that the mean score of students‟ motivation is 65.87. On the other hand the mean score of reading comprehension of tenth grade students at MA Negeri Gombong is 69.26. The analysis result also showed that the rvalue is higher than rtable, rvalue is 0,314 > rtable 0,232. It can be inferred that ha is accepted, it means there is a correlation between students‟ motivation in learning English and their reading comprehension ability at the tenth grade students of MA Negeri Gombong in the academic year of 2016/2017.
