dc.description.abstract The study is carried out to analyze and to clasify the types and the sources of students errors in using simple past tense in writing recount text. The purpose of this study are to find out their frequency of occurence and to find out the sources of errors which students, made in using simple past tense in writing recount text. The method used in this study is qualitative. Furthermore, the subject of the research is students of 8-A class which consisted of 20 students. The data is collected through test and interview both students. The result of the error analysis process showed that the students committed error into four types: omission, addition, misordering, and misinformation. From the frequency of each error types, misinformation was the error which most frequently produced by the students. It took 46,21% of the total errors. Moreover, 16,55% fell into addition, 21,38% fell into omission, 15,86% fell into misordering. These errors are conducted because most of the students are still influenced by their mother tongue and their indonesian logical thinking. It showed that the usage of the simke oast tense in writing recount text is difficult for students. en_US
