Reading is one of four language skills that are very important in learning
English. If their reading skill is poor they are likely to fail in their study or at least
they will have difficulties in making progress. If the teacher could take an
appropriate technique in teaching reading, it would help the students to read in
effective way. One of technique that can be used of teaching reading
comprehension is Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR).
The objective of the study is to describe the effectiveness of using
Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) technique in teaching reading
comprehension recount text at the eighth grade students of SMP AL-HUDA
KEBUMEN. In order to achieve the objective of this study, the writer will design
an experimental research because the researcher giving treatment to the
experimental class. The population is the eighth grade students of SMP ALHUDA
KEBUMEN in the academic year of 2016/2017. In this research, the
researcher used purposive sampling in taking the sample because of the limitation
of time. In this research, the researcher took 56 students of VIII E and VIII F as
sample; they are experimental group and control group. The researcher used pretest
and post-test, the researcher taught reading comprehension recount text by
using CSR as a treatment to the experimental group. Statistically, the researcher
analyzed the data by using t-test computation.
The result of the study shows that the students’ progress of experimental
group in reading comprehension is really good. It can be seen from the mean score
of experimental group and control group. The mean score of experimental group
is 78.91. Meanwhile, the mean of control group is 73.19. It shows that the t-value
is higher than t-table (2.28>2.00) with probability (p) lower than α (0.05), it is
0.000 < 0.05. With 0.95 or 95% of significance level, Ho is rejected and Ha is
accepted. Therefore, the use of CSR in teaching reading comprehension recount
text at the eighth grade students of SMP AL-HUDA KEBUMEN in the academic
year of 2016/2017 is effective. |
