Abstract:
The aim of this research is to find out the effectiveness using NHK World
news video in teaching listening skill. Here, the researcher has question to be
answered. Is using NHK World news video effective in teaching listening skill at
the eleventh grade students of SMA N 8 Purworejo in the academic year of
2016/2017?
The population of the research is the eleventh grade students of SMA N 8
Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 which consists of 189 students and
the amount of the sample is 60 students. Sample is taken by using purposive
sampling technique. The independent variable of the research is using NHK World
news video and the dependent variable of the research is the students’ listening skill.
The instrument that is used to get the data is multiple choice test.
The result shows that using NHK World news video in teaching reading
listening skill at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 8 Purworejo in the academic
year of 2016/2017 is effective. It can be seen from the mean score of experimental
class that is higher than the mean score of control class (70.83 > 61.67). It can be
concluded that using NHK World news video is effective in teaching listening skill
at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 8 Purworejo in the academic year of
2016/2017.
