Abstract:
The
objectives of this research is describe whether using WhatsApp is effective or not
to improve studentsโs writing ability in Announcement text at the tenth grade
students of SMAN 1 Klirong in the academic year of 2016/2017. This study is
belongs to Experimental research. To collect the data the researcher uses test as
the instrument. The data were collected through writing test. The experiment is
held through pre test and post test. The researcher uses two groups: experiment
group and control group. In the experiment group the researcher use Whats App.
The population of the study is the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Klirong. The
total number of the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Klirong is 256 students. The
researcher takes only 64 students, X.IPA.3 as experimental group and X.IPA.4 as
control group. The mean score of control group is 69.97, and it has good ability in
writing. While the mean score of experimental group is 76.88 and it has good
ability in writing. The computation result of t-test is 4.551. The result of
computation value is consulted to the 𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 at 0.05 significant level, the 𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 is
1.999. It is seen that the computation result (4.551) is higher than 𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒(1.999) in
the significant level 0.05. From the result above, it can be conclude that there is
significant difference in the achievement between the students who are taught
using WhatsApp and students who were taught without WhatsApp. So, it can be
conclude that using whats app is effective to improve writing ability in
announcement text at the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Klirong in the
academic year of 2016/2017.
