Speaking is one of the most important skills in learning English. The best way to learn speaking is practicing speaking. However, in many schools, the students do not have chance to speak English because they are passive students or also because the teacher does not use the creative media. Based on those problems, the researcher tries to propose a new media to use in teaching speaking that media is Pop-up book.
The purpose of this research is to find out whether pop-up book is effective or not as media to improve students speaking skill at SMA N 1 Kutowinangun. Pop-up book is a book that has picture ,the appearance of Pop-up book is more interesting since the output of pictures is (almost) in 3D. 3D allows students to imagine the real things in more fun way because of the movements.
This research is called experimental research. The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Kutowinangun in the academic year of 2016/2017. The population of this research are 280 students. The sample of this research is two classes which are divided into control group ( XMIPA 1, 35 students) and experimental group (XMIPA 4, 35 students). While the instrument used in this research was speaking test. In collecting the data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test. Before conducting post-test, researcher gave treatment for experimental group using pop-up as media and common way for control group. After getting enough data, the researcher calculated the data using t-test polled-variance.
The result of this research found that the use of Pop-up book is effective in teaching speaking skill. It was found that the result of t-value was 5.19. Based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t-table was 2.00, the computation show that t-value was higher than t-table, which was 5.19>2.00. it means that Pop-up Book is effective in teaching speaking skill at the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Kutowinangun in academic year of 2016/2017. |
