Abstract:
The objectives of this research are to describe the students’ reading
comprehension ability of descriptive text and to find out wheter the use of poster
in teaching reading is effective or not in reading comprehension of descriptive text
at the tenth grade students of MAN Purworejo in the Academic Year of
2016/2017.
The population of the research is the tenth grade students of MAN
Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 which consists of 95 students and
the amount of the sample is 54 students. Sample was taken by using purposive
sampling technique. The independent variable of the research was used Poster and
the dependent variable of the research was the students’ reading ability. The
instrument that was used to get the data is multiple choice test.
The mean score of pre-test of control group was 60.4; meanwhile, the
mean score of post-test of control group was 64.4 categorized sufficient. On the
other side, the mean score of pre-test of experimental group was 61.6 and the
mean score of post-test of experimental group was 71.3 categorized good. The
result shows that using Poster in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive
text at the tenth grade sudents of MAN Purworejo in the academic year of
2016/2017 is effective. It can be seen from the result of t-table and t-value. The ttable
is 2.01 and the obtained t-value is 3.47. Ho is refused and Ha is accepted
because the t-value is higher than the critical value on the table (3.47>2.01). It can
be concluded that using Poster is effective in teaching reading descriptive text at
the tenth grade students of MAN Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017.
The hypothesis is accepted.
