The Analysis of Referring Expression on The Caption of Instagram’s Official Account and Its Application in Teaching Writing at the Eighth Grade of Junior High School

Abstract

This research deals with referring expression on the caption of instagram official account. The objectives of this research are to find out types of referring expression contained on the caption of instagram official account and To describe the application of Referring Expression to teach writing at the eighth Grade of Junior High School This research belongs to qualitative research. The data source of this research is the caption of instagram official account published on 29th April-12th May 2017 that contained of referring expression. The instrument of this research is the researcher itself. Collecting the data used four steps and the tecnique of analysing data used four steps. The result of this reserch shows that there are 516 from the total referring expression that found on the caption of Instagram official account, it consist of 313 personal pronouns(56%),84 proper names (15%), 109 definite noun phrases (19%) ,and 55 indefinite noun phrases(10%). The dominant data is pronoun that contained in instagram’s caption. The referring expression can be applied in teaching writing at the eight grade of junior high school.
