Abstract:
The aims of this study is to find the effectiveness of Personal Vocabulary Notes (PVN) technique in teaching vocabulary at the seventh grade students of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017.
This research uses Personal Vocabulary Notes (PVN) Technique in teaching vocabulary at the seventh grade students of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017. This research is called experimental research. In this research, the researcher takes 60 students among 190 students as the sample. The sampling technique which is used is purposive sampling. The researcher uses test only as instrument to collect the data. The techniques of analyzing data are descriptive analysis and inferential analysis computation in which the researcher computes it using manual computation and using SPSS program.
From the result of the test, it is known that the mean score of pre-test from experimental group is 62.93 which belong to sufficient category. Meanwhile the mean score from control is 61.46 sufficient categories. Then, after the treatment was done, it can be seen that the mean score of post-test from experimental group is 77.07 and it belongs to good category. Furthermore, the mean score from control group is 69.87 and it belongs to good categories. To know whether Personal Vocabulary Notes (PVN) Technique is effective or not, the researcher uses t-test and the result of computation shows that t value obtained bigger than t table (3.705>2.000). Then, the result of computation using SPSS shows that the sig.2 failed smaller than alpha value (0.000<0.05) which mean that hypothesis which says Personal Vocabulary Notes (PVN) Technique is effective for teaching vocabulary at seventh grade students of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017 is accepted.
