dc.description.abstract The aims of this study are to know whether the students make errors and to find the types of errors, and to know the source of errors made by the eighth grade students’ of SMP N 12 Purwoejo.In collecting the data, the researcher employs reliable and valid instrument those are test and questionnaire. The researcher takes the data from the eighth grade students of SMP N 12 Purworejo. In analyzing the data the researcher uses descriptive qualitative data analysis. The result shows that the average of students’ errors is 51%. It belongs to fair criteria, which is categorized as good. The finding shows that the total students’ errors are 177 errors. The students make errors in 70 misformations (39.54%), 57 omissions (32.21%), 29 misorderings (16.39%), 21 additions (11.87%). To minimize the errors or even to get satisfactory outcome in simple present tense, the researcher suggest that the teacher motivate his students to improve their English especially writing skill. By knowing what the most students’ get errors in auxiliary and word choice, the teacher should know what should he/she does. The teacher should give more understanding about English grammar and also English vocabulary. Besides, teaching learning activity must be improved to get the satisfactory result en_US
