Abstract:
The aim of this research is to know whether there is effectiveness of
situational pictures as media in teaching writing ability of descriptive text to the
seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Poncowarnob in the academic year
2014/2015. In this research, the researcher took two classes as the sample. One
class was control group and other as experimental group. Each class consist of 28
students. So, the number of sample was 56 students. While the instrument that
was used in this thesis, was test. In collecting the data, the writer used pre-test and
post-test. Before conducting post-test, the writer gave treatment for experimental
group using situational pictures as media and common way for control group.
After getting enough data, the researcher calculated the data using t-test polledvariance.
After collecting the data and analyzing them, the researcher presents the
result of the research. The result of the mean score of post test of experimental
group is higher than the mean score of post test of control group (73.82>63.86) In
addition, the result of t-value is 5.17. then the researcher consults the critical value
on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance and the degree of freedom
is 2.000, it shows thst t-value is higher than t-table (2.06>2.000) It means that
using situational pictures as media in teaching writing of descriptive text to the
seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Poncowarno in the academic year 2014/2015
is effective.
