dc.description.abstract Simple Present Tense is the first tense that is introduced to the students of junior high school because this tense commonly used in daily conversation. Unfortunately, the students have problems in constructing a sentence in Simple Present Tense. Because of that, the researcher tries to solve their problems and make the students interested in grammar especially tense simple present tense. The aim of this research is to find out whether using climbing grammar mountain game is effective or not in improving students‟ mastery in simple present tense at the seventh grade students of SMP Nurul Huda Gandrungmangu Cilacap in the academic year 2015/2016. The research was being carried out at SMP Nurul Huda Gandrungmangu Cilacap from 13th January to 16th January 2016. It is an Experimental Research. The researcher takes two classes as the sample and uses purposive sampling in taking sample. The class VII A is as an experimental group and class VII B is as control group. In collecting the data, the researcher uses pre-test and post-test. Before conducting post-test, the researcher gives treatment for experimental group using climbing grammar mountain game. To analyze the data, the researcher uses t-test. Based on the previous computation, the mean score of experimental group is 73.91 and the mean score of control group is 64.84, to see whether the hypothesis is accepted or rejected, the t-value is consulted to the t-table at the 0.05 significance level. It shows that the t-table is 1.999 and the t-value is . It means that t-value is higher than t-table ( >1.999). Therefore, it can be concluded that the using climbing grammar mountain game in improving students‟ mastery in simple present tense at the seventh grade students of SMP Nurul Huda Gandrungmangu Cilacap in the academic year 2015/2016 is effective. en_US
