Abstract:
The aim of this research is to describe whether Directed Reading
Thinking-Activity (DR-TA) strategy is effective or not in teaching reading
Recount text at the tenth grade students of SMANegeri 1 Petanahan in the
Academic year of 2015/2016.
The type of the research is quantitative research with quasi experimental
as the design. The population of the research is the tenth grade students of SMA
Negeri 1 Petanahan in the academic year of 2015/2016.The sample is 60
students.Sample is taken using purposive sampling technique. The independent
variable of the research is using DR-TA strategy and the dependent variable of the
research is the students’ reading recount text ability. The instrument that is used to
get the data is multiple choice test. The techniques of analyzing the data are
descriptive statistics in finding mean, standard deviation, mode, median, variance;
and inferential analysis is used normality test, test of homogeneity and t-test as
hypothesis
The results of the computation are the mean of the students’ reading
recount text ability in post-test of experimental group is 84.13 and it is categorized
as excellent. Meanwhile, the mean of the students’ reading recount text ability in
post-test of control group is 73.70 and it is categorized good. The value of the
computation of t-test is 6.327 and t-table is 2.000. The computation shows that tvalue
is higher than t-table (6.327>2.000). So, it can be stated that the hypothesis
“Using Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DR-TA) strategy in teaching reading
recount text at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Petanahan in the
academic year of 2015/2016 is effective” is accepted.
