Abstract:
The aims of this research are to find out the forms of derivational morphemes in
the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖, to find out the types of inflectional
morphemes in the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖, and to describe the
application of derivational and inflectional morphemes in the novel entitled ―The School
for Good and Evil‖ in teaching vocabulary.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative research. The object is the novel
entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖. The data of this study are derivational and
inflectional morphemes in the novel. In order to analyze the data, some steps are
conducted. The data is taken from the novel. The researcher reads the novel to collect
the data.
The result of this research shows that there are four forms of derivational
morphemes found: 137 nouns (30.04%), 25 verbs (5.48%), 118 adverbs (25.87%), 176
adjectives (38.60%) and there are eight types of inflectional morphemes found: 90
plurals (6.56%), 28 possessives (2.04%), 134 present tenses (9.76%), 257 present
participles (18.73%), 395 past participles (28.80%), 441 past tenses (32.14%), 13
comparatives (0.94%), and 14 superlatives (1.02%). The application of derivational and
inflectional morphemes in the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖ in
teaching vocabulary at eleventh grade of Senior High School. The teacher can apply
three main steps. They are pre teaching, whilst teaching and post teaching. Affixation
can guess the meaning of new word to improve the students‘ vocabulary
