Abstract:
The objective of this research is to describe whether or not using Realia is
effective or not in teaching writing procedure text at the seventh grade of SMP N
33 Puworejo in the academic year 2015/2016.
The researcher uses realia in teaching writing procedure text as a teaching
media at the seventh grade of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of
2015/2016. The type of the research is quantitative research. In this research, the
researcher takes 32 students from 128 students as population at the seventh grade
of SMP N 33 Purworejo as the sample. Then, the researcher gives pre-test and
post-test. The researcher teaches writing procedure text by using realia to the
experimental class. The researcher then statistically analyze the data by using ztest
separated variance bacause the data have abnormal distribution.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that using realia in
teaching writing procedure text at the seventh grade students of SMP N 33
Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective. As the fact, the mean of
the students’ writing procedure text ability in pre-test is 58.69 (sufficient) and the
mean of the students’ writing ability in post-test is 79.91 (excellent). The result of
z-value is 4.899. Based on the 0.05 significant level, the value of z-table is 1.96.
The result of computation shows that z-value is higher than z-table, that is 4.899 >
1.96. Another fact shows that the media used is effective. Based on the result
finding, the researcher concludes that using realia as a teaching media is effective
in teaching writing procedure text at the seventh grade students of SMP N 33
Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016. It can be shown that the students’
writing ability increased.
