dc.description.abstract The aim of the study was to increase students' interest in learning and applying effective strategies and beneficial for students to improve their proficiency in the English language in particular to improve speaking ability to the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Gombong. It is expected that the result of study will provide a deeper understanding of the use Firing Line as a Teaching Strategy. Strategy used by the teacher for teaching and learning process. One of the aprropiate strategies that can be functioned the students’ speaking ability is Firing Line. In this study, experimental research was used to obtain the information related to the research problems. The samples of this study take one class. The class is Science X4 as experimental group. The population is 310. The researcher took 32 students as sample. In this study test is conducted to find out whether there are significant chances in experimental group after being given firing line strategy or not. The researcher uses purposive sampling in taking the samples because the limitation of the time, money and energy. The researcher cannot hold a longer time to do the research in the school. The spoken test was used to know students’improvement that was taught by using new strategy. The result of this study showed that teaching speaking by using Firing Line strategy can improve the students’speaking ability. Based on the result of pre-test and post-test, the mean score of the pre-test was 61.81. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test was 71.41. It means that there was an improvement on the students’ speaking ability. In addition, the result of the computation of t-value (ttest) is 18.19. The computation shows that t-value is lower than t-table that is - 18.19<-0.204. So the hypothesis is accepted. After computing t-test separated variance, and after knowing that the hypothesis is accepted, the theory meets the fact in this case. It means that there is significant effective of using Firing Line as a strategy in teaching speaking at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Gombong. en_US
