Abstract:
This research is aimed to find out whether there is effectiveness of using
Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method in teaching reading descriptive text at
the tenth grade students’ of SMK TI Kartika Cendekia Purworejo in the academic
year of 2015/2016.
The type of this research is quantitative and uses experimental research.
The design of this research is a true experiment design with pre-test and post-test
procedure. The total sample is 64 students divided into two groups, the
experimental group are 32 students (X Multimedia) and the control group are 32
students (X TKJ). In collecting data, the researcher uses reading test. The pre-test
and post-test of reading consist 20 items of multiple choice. Pre-test is to know
the ability the students before the usage TAI as a method and the post-test is to
know the ability of students after the usage of TAI as a method. While in
analyzing the data, the researcher uses T- test.
The result shows that the mean score of pre-test in experimental group is
62.03 and the mean score of post-test is 75.63. While the mean score of pre-test in
control group is 56.88 and the mean score of post-test is 62.81. Then the value of
t-test is 6.604 and the t-table is 1.804. Then the researcher consults the critical
value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance and the degree of
freedom is 2.000.The result of computation shows that t-value is higher than ttable,
that is 6.604>1.804 so it can be stated that the hypothesis “The use of Team
Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method is effective in teaching reading descriptive
text” is accepted.
