Abstract:
Language is an important tool our life and English has been choosing as
the international language by the world communities. As a language, English has
some parts to be mastered include listening, speaking, reading, writing,
vocabulary and grammar. To mastering English we must mastering those parts by
studying English. It is also important for us to mastery grammar because grammar
has important role in mastering other parts of English. Grammar for Junior High
School is also important to be learnt. Choose the right method in teaching
grammar also necessary. One instructional method that keeps student active in a
lesson is introducing cooperative learning using Course Review Horay (CRH)
method.
This research belongs to experimental research because in conducting the
data the researcher uses treatment using Course Review Horay (CRH) method.
The researcher has conducted the research in SMP N 26 Purworejo. The
population of this research is the eighth grade students. Consists 219 students
from seven classes. The sample of this research is VIII A (31 students) as of
control group and VIII B (32 students) as the experimental group.
After doing analysis, the researcher concludes that this study shows
positive and significant effectiveness of teaching simple past tense using Course
Review Horay (CRH) method (Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted), since it was
found that the result of t-value 5.883 and the t-table shows 2.000 in the level
significant of t-table is 5%. It shows that t-value is higher that t-table
(5.883>2.000). The students who are taught using Course Review Horay (CRH) is
indicated will get better ability rather than students who has been taught using
common method. It means that there is significant effective of using Course
Review Horay (CRH) method in teaching simple past tense at the eighth grade of
SMP N 26 Purworejo.
