Abstract:
This study concerns with the analysis of implicatures used in English
slogans of medicine advertisement and its application in teaching speaking. This
study is conducted in order to find out the implicature of English slogan used in
medicine advertisement and to explain the application in teaching speaking.
Mostly, the English slogans in medicine advertisement employ implicature and
people should use their knowledge to draw the implicit meaning of the slogans.
This study is a kind of descriptive qualitative research. The instrument of
this study is the researcher herself. The researcher uses documentation as the
method in collecting data. The data are downloaded from the internet and
analyzed using implicature theory.
From data which have been analyzed, it is found that 25 data employ
implicature, 2 data (8%) of English slogans used in medicine advertisement
belong to generalized conversational implicature, 13 data (52%) belong to
particularized conversational implicature, and 10 data (40%) belong to
conventional implicature. Moreover, implicature can be used by the teacher as
additional knowledge for students in teaching expression of offering things and
services in Senior High School at the twelfth grade. The researcher suggests other
researchers to conduct research deals with implicature analysis and make their
research being able to be applied in language teaching. Therefore, the result of
their study will be more useful.
