dc.description.abstract Human communicates each other by using language which is born as a combination of the nature they live in, habitual, and social interaction as a part of culture. There are various language used in inter nations and each of them have their own characteristics and it makes them got problem to communicate. So, English is used as an international language to bridge them who speak in their own language to be able to communicate each other. To master English, there are four basic language skills which are supported by other English components. One of the most important components is vocabulary because it is the foundation of the language skills. The problems faced by SMP students are lack of vocabulary mastery, low motivation, and passive students. To overcome those problems, the researcher applies wordwall media. Moreover, the goal of the research is to find out whether or not using wordwall media is effective in teaching vocabulary at the eighth grade students of SMPN 26 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016. This research uses non-equivalent control group design with 220 students as its population. By employing purposive sampling, the researcher takes 63 students coming from 2 classes as her sample. To gain the data, she uses multiple choice tests as her instrument which consists of 25 questions with 4 (four) options. After getting the data, she then did an analysis the data in order to answer the statement of the problem and the hypothesis. From the computation, it is known that the result of post-test shows that the mean score of experiment class is 67.81 categorized good and the mean score of control class is 58.13 belongs to sufficient category based on the criteria-reference scale of Arikunto (2013:245). Because the data have normal distribution (8.68 and 8.90 < 11.070) and they are homogenous (0.709 < 1.828), then the researcher uses t-test to do test of hypothesis. From the computation, it shows that tvalue is higher than ttable (4.342 > 1.999) which means that the hypothesis alternative is accepted and hypothesis null is rejected. In other words, it can be said that there is a significant difference on the mastery of vocabulary between class taught using word wall media and those taught without word wall on the eighth grade students of SMPN 26 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016. The researcher concludes that using word wall in teaching vocabulary is effective at the eighth grade students of SMPN 26 in the academic year of 2015/2016. en_US
