Abstract:
The objective of this research is to describe whether the use of “writing in the
here and now” strategy is effective in teaching writing to the tenth grade students of
SMAN 1 Gombong in the academic year of 2015/2016.
This research consists of two variables; independent variable and dependent
variable. The independent variable of this research is teaching writing using writing
in the here and now strategy. Then, the dependent variable of this research is the
students’ writing ability. The population of this research was the tenth grade students
of SMA N 1 Gombong in the academic year of 2015/2016 with the total number 310.
The sample of this research consisted of 30 students. The technique of the data
collection was using test. It was done by giving pre-test and post-test. Meanwhile,
the technique of data analysis used descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The
inferential analysis was done by using SPSS.
The result of the research shows that the mean score of pre-test is 71.13.
Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test is 78.17. To see whether the hypothesis is
accepted or rejected, z-value is consulted to z-table at the 0.05 significance level. It
shows that z-table is 1.960 and z-value is 4.832. It means that z-value is higher than
z-table, that is 4.832 > 1.960. Therefore, it can be stated that the hypothesis “Writing
in the Here and Now strategy is effective in teaching writing at the tenth grade
students of SMA N 1 Gombong in the academic year of 2015/2016” is accepted.
