Abstract:
This research is aimed to find out whether there was any effectiveness of
using English Comic in teaching reading narrative text at the eighth grade students
of SMP N 1 Prembun in the academic year of 2015/2016.
The type of this research is quantitative. The design of this research was a
quasi experiment design with pre-test and post-test procedure. The total
population is 288 students of the eight grade students of SMP N 1
Prembun. This research applies a purposive sampling method to get samples. The
total sample was 64 students. The sample was divided into two groups; the
experimental group was 32 and the control group was 32. Then, the data
was analyzed using the t-test method to find out whether there was any
effectiveness of using English Comic in teaching reading narrative at the eighth
grade students of SMP N 1 Prembun in the academic year of 2015/2016.
There were four steps in conducting this action research; conducting pretest,
conducting treatment, conducting post-test, and evaluating. The computation
result of t-test was 4.757. The critical value of t was 1.999 for α = 5% and df = 62.
Because t value was higher than the critical value of t (4.757>1.999), H0 was
refused and Ha or H alternative was accepted. Thus, the hypothesis stated
that “there was effectiveness of using English Comic in teaching reading
narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Prembun in the academic
year of 2015/2016 was accepted. It means that English Comic as a media toward
the students’ reading ability of the eighth students of SMP N 1 Prembun was
effective.
