Abstract:
English is an international language that is used to interact with others
around the world. For student by mastering English, it is easier to understand the
various sources of learning. English is one of the foreign languages for Indonesian
students that must be learnt in school since kindergarten level up to colleges.
Writing is one of the skills that is very important to be mastered by the student.
Writing skill is the abilities to express ideas or opinions in written English. There
are many genres in writing text. The examples of genre of text are narative,
procedure, report and descriptive .To increase student ability in acquiring writing
ability, the teacher can use many techniques. One of the teaching technique that
can be used in teaching writing of descriptive text is Round Robin Technique.
The aim of this research is to describe whether Round Robin Technique is
effective or not in teaching writing of descriptive text. The researcher took 32
students as the sample. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the
data. The researcher gave the treatment by teaching the students uses Round
Robin Technique in writing descriptive text at the tenth grade students of SMA N
8 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016. The researcher then statistically
calculated the data by using t-test polled variance.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that teaching writing of
descriptive text using Round Robin Technique is effective. As a matter of fact, the
result of t-value is -15.48. The result shows that t-value is lower than t-table that is
-15.48 < -2.04. So, it can be stated that the hypothesis “teaching writing of
descriptive text at the tenth grade students of SMA N 8 Purworejo in the academic
year 2015/2016 using Round Robin Technique is effective” is accepted.
